Cascais (kush-kaish) has rocketed from sleepy fishing village to much-loved summertime playground of wave-frolicking lisboêtas ever since King Luís I went for a dip in 1870 (Lonelyplanet.com).

Baia de Cascais

Full of history, from the Paleolithic period but the development of Cascais began in earnest in the 12th century, when it was administratively subordinate to the town of Sintra, located to the north. In its humble beginnings, Cascais depended on the products of the sea and land, but by the 13th century its fish production was also supplying the nearby city of Lisbon. The toponymy "Cascais" appears to derive from this period, a plural derivation of cascal (monte de cascas) which signified a "mountain of shells", referring to the abundant volume of marine mollusks harvested from the coastal waters.

This superb family house well located in Cascais, in the neighbourhood of Rosario, on an avenue of grand houses and rows of trees, within the proximity of the old quarter and Marina of Cascais. 10 minute walk to the ‘Casa da Guia’ where you’ll find a selection of eateries and cafés, along with boutiques of designer clothes and jewellery, over looking the ocean. The detached house built over three levels with 477 sqm gross living area, on a plot of 1396 sqm offers plenty of space as well as comfort.

With a large pool and gardens, including an outdoor barbecue, for taking full advantage of the sunny and warm climate Portugal has offer. In addition to the main house, there is a well-designed self-contained annex studio, with a small kitchen and bathroom. Through the main entrance to the house an inviting atrium, with a spiralling staircase, leading off to the lounge and dining area and a spacious WC. On through the corridor, to the heart of the house, you’ll find the fully fitted kitchen with a dining area and pantry, further on you arrive into the sitting and billiard room, and another social bathroom, all opening onto the garden and pool. On the upper level the bedrooms. With four bedrooms, of which two are en suites, including the master bedroom with a wonderful dressing room. There is an office and two further bathrooms, stairs to the converted attic with another bedroom and an independent bathroom. On the lower ground floor, the garage and domestic quarters, and a social lounge with an open fireplace, and bathroom.
